A sustainable woodland management project incorporating a woodland school teaching green woodwork, bush craft and a variety of coppice skills.
There is a well equipped tented workshop with eight pole lathes, eight shave-horses and ample tools.
The kitchen has a waist level open fire and an earth oven. A full range of utensils and basic ingredients are provided.
There is a compost toilet facility and efficient wood heated shower.
On courses, a delicious lunch, coffee and tea are provided using local and, where possible, organic produce. Students prepare their own evening meals using the kitchen. An opportunity to relax and socialise after a hard day's bodging!
Leave behind the stress and pressures of modern life and step into a world without TV, radio, newspapers, electricity and ‘phones. Enjoy using your hands and age old techniques to produce a beautiful and useful artefact to take home.
A very big thank you to all those who took part in the llast Project Week. It made a big difference to the facilities in Cherry Wood. Lots of new pictures have been added around the web site of the wide variety of achievements, particularly on the news page.
Courses
Arrival is from 9.30am. Courses begin promptly at 10.00am, running through until 6.00pm. Please see 'Course Dates' for the details, ' What is green woodwork?' for background, and click here for a booking form.
An original and imaginative present!
Buy a course as a gift, the perfect present - many of our students have been introduced to green woodworking and had the opportunity to getaway and try something new from receiving a course as a gift. Contact Tim Gatfield for details. Cards and vouchers are available now.
Sustainable transport
We would like to minimise the number of car journeys to Cherry Wood. To this end we would encourage you to consider using public transport. We will always collect you from the nearest bus stops. If you cycle we will pick you and your bike up from the bottom of the hill!
If we see you are travelling from the same area as another student we will ask you if we can put you in touch with each other to share a lift. Staying at Cherry Wood is lots of fun. Camping or renting a cabin is and cheap and easy, and it's only a short walk from the campfire and the kitchen after a well earned drink!
Disabled access
There is disabled access to the kitchen, workshop, fire circle, camping area toilet facilities along the main stoned track. However it's is the only level track in the wood. The rest of the wood is very steep and tracks are unsuitable for wheelchairs.
Volunteers
Volunteers always welcomed, skilled and un-skilled. Give me a ring and spend a day in the woods.
